Whether it’s the convenience factor or cost savings, many of us have fully embraced online shopping. Pet owners are no exception, and the increasing availability of more affordable pet medications online has many owners turning to the internet for their pet’s prescription medications. However, while this may be cheaper and easier, there are plenty of concerns associated with purchasing pet medications online.
Most of us couldn’t imagine not brushing our teeth a few times a day and checking in with our dentist periodically. Our pets, however, often don’t enjoy the level of dental care and attention we give to ourselves. Many suffer from a complete lack of dental care, and pain, advanced periodontal disease, and other major dental problems are often the result.
At Bayshore Animal Hospital we believe strongly that good dental care is part of the foundation for excellent pet care. The pet dental exam is the basis for this, and not all oral examinations are created equally.Continue…

The decriminalization of marijuana is gaining traction around the United States. Laws were initially passed to protect patients using it for medical purposes, but now recreational use of the drug is legal in nine states.
Here in Florida, cannabis can be prescribed for various medical conditions, none of which apply to animals. However, many pets share homes with those that use marijuana products. The issue of pot and pets isn’t new, but because of the changing world we live in, a contemporary approach to prevention is necessary.
The Risks and Dangers
Marijuana can lead to toxicity in animals if consumed. Symptoms are directly related to the amount consumed, and the type of product, as well as an animal’s size, breed, and relative health. Just as you would with any drug or poisonous substance, marijuana must be safely stored out of your pet’s reach. Continue…

Most of us are aware of the old adage, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Did you know that this old saying is just as relevant to pet wellness, as it is to our own ?
The term “wellness” may throw some of us off, though. Why would we need to see the veterinarian if our pet is well? At Bayshore Animal Hospital, pet wellness is aimed at getting to know you and your pet, catching disease early, and answering your questions and concerns.
Nose to Tail Pet Wellness
You see your pet every day, and they probably look perfectly fine to you. But how can you tell if they are okay? The short answer is, you can’t. That’s why an annual wellness exam is so important. Early detection of disease helps us catch small problems before they become something more serious.
After taking a thorough health history from you, we start with a nose to tail examination of all your pet’s body systems. We’ll look at your pet’s eyes, ears, nose, mouth, skin and coat, musculoskeletal system, and their heart and lungs to make sure there are no abnormalities. Veterinarians are trained to use their eyes, ears, and skills to determine if your pet may have a problem, and we can then make recommendations for follow-up diagnostics, if needed. Continue…
